We are finishing up our study about a..a… apple and I came up with a great (tasty) treat for us to celebrate! We loved how easy and kid friendly these are to make! This is fun and we even incorporated a way to practice writing A!
Directions: (scroll down for complete recipe)
Cut two apple shapes from the pie dough.
Put about 1 Tbsp. of filling on top of one cut out then place the other on top and crimp.
Write the letter A on top with a toothpick or the fork.
Sprinkle the sugar on top (after egg wash if you are using it- egg wash get the crust nice and golden brown too). Bake and let cool… these are so good and the perfect hand pies!!!

Ingredients
- apple pie filling (I like Duncan Hines)
- refrigerated pie dough (Pillsbury makes a good one)
- sugar for sprinkling or cinnamon sugar (we used red sugar and green sugar)
- optional egg for egg wash
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 425. Roll out the refrigerated pie crusts and begin to cut out two apple shapes per pie with apple cookie cutter (or just two circles for a regular pie). Place 1 Tbsp. of apple pie filling in the middle of one cut out per pie. Place the other cut out on top and crimp edges around the whole pie. Place on baking sheet. Brush a thin layer of egg wash on top of the pies (optional). Sprinkle sugar and/ or cinnamon on top of each pie and bake for 25-35 minutes or until each pie is light golden brown in the middle and deep brown (but not burnt) on the edges. Cool off for at least 15 minutes before serving (pie filing is hot).
