I made this sign within an hour and it was SO easy. The dots look painted but (don’t tell anyone) it’s just mod podge giving it that wonderful hand painted look! All you need is a
thin piece of plywood or a canvas to the size you like,
paint for the board (acrylic),
paint brush,
mod podge,
scrapbook paper (must be thick and quality paper)
chipboard letters (if you are doing letters)
hot glue for letters
Now let’s get started!
Get the paint ready. I thinned my paint with a little water so that some of the grain would show through.
paint along the grain… take care of drips around the edge since the edges will show.

grab the chipboard letters… these are from Hobby Lobby and come with one side covered in glossy whie.
This is where I took the longest letter I was using and found a bowl with the diameter I wanted to trace around. (The bowl needs to be greater in diameter than the longest letter )
Trace around the bowl for the amount of circles you need then cut out…”It’s elementary my dear!”
Wait for the board to dry (mine was dry within 15 minutes). Place the circles and letters on the board the way you want them.
Get out the Mod Podge!
Leave the circles in place and remove letters. Paint the Mod Podge to the back of one circle and place on the board where you laid it out. Repeat for each circle.
Once you have all circles on the board again start painting the tops. Make strokes as if you were using paint.
After all circles have the Mod Podge on top paint the board around them following the grain again.
Take a pic of your baby love while you wait for it to dry!
note: While everything is drying the paper may have air bubbles, but when it’s completely dry they should go away. When dry hot glue the letters on.
now that you are finished… hang it on the wall… I used yarn and tacks on the back of the picture (if using thin canvas do not use tacks they will go through… use a pop can tab and hot glue it to the back- then you have your hook!)
